Resin-iscent

"Resin-iscent," imagines an intricate dialogue between the past and the future, examining the delicate human condition through the lens of transition and transformation. This project captures a pivotal, yet often overlooked moment in our lives: the silent passage from childhood. This piece embodies a paradoxical blend of innocence and discomfort, initially presenting an almost cloying portrayal of youthful purity through its la vie en rose aesthetic. Yet, a deeper, unsettling narrative unfolds as viewers discover teeth encased within resin "ice cubes," a stark deviation from the saccharine tableau.

Teeth, within both literary and psychoanalytic realms, symbolize control. Their loss, therefore, represents a relinquishment of this control, mirroring the uncertainties and inevitable shifts we face as we navigate life's stages. The teeth in this work, forever preserved in resin, signify this very loss and the inevitable changes that accompany our awakening to life's complexities. This transition, akin to the natural process of shedding baby teeth for adult ones, is a universal experience—uncomfortable, yet an intrinsic part of growth.

"Resin-iscent" invites viewers to reconsider what disturbs the equilibrium of the imagery. While the presence of teeth might initially seem disruptive, it is the hypothetical environment that would prove more detrimental—imagining the teeth in real ice hints at pain from sensitivity and the potential for decay. However, in this suspended state where the resin never melts, the teeth, and symbolically our past experiences, are protected from further harm. This preservation serves as a metaphor for how our futures are shielded from past afflictions.

The installation embodies a complex duality: the frustration of being unable to reclaim parts of ourselves that we've lost, against the solace found in knowing that our future selves are insulated from the past's pains. "Resin-iscent" offers a momentary pause in the relentless flow of time, where the sweetness of youth remains undiluted and the decay of what is life remains undecided, encapsulating the beauty and ambiguity of life's perpetual transitions.
