PRESTO Transit Fare Kiosk

In a city as diverse as Toronto, it is important for the transit system to be accessible, intuitive, and welcoming to all, regardless of their familiarity with the locale. This redesign of the PRESTO fare kiosks for the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) tackles the current issues of outdated visuals and the presumption of user familiarity with the TTC and city, making Toronto more accessible to visitors and new residents alike. It focuses on implementing features that allow for a more comprehensive scope of users, including an optional questionnaire-based suggestion process, as well as contextual annotations and pop-ups that can provide users with relevant information and resources that can act as additional guides – at the same time maintaining transparency to encourage conscious decision making. Such add-ons take into consideration of Ontario’s new One Fare Program launching on February 26, 2024. These enhancements are made with the intent to create more inclusive, user-friendly portals to Toronto, ensuring a seamless transit experience for all, irrespective of their knowledge of the city.
